Well why regular pen, its better make your own than to spin with some regular one.
Basicly the rule is - the longer, the better.
About weight, it's best when you have weights (for example grips) at the end of pen, since it gives it momentum.
One of the simpliest mods I made was wooden stick with grips at the end. Or for example marker with additional cap at the other side + with grips on both sides.

Personally, i'd start with an unsharpened round pencil, with the COP marked with sharpie, or something. Because it really helped with understanding the tricks.
Or you could go with something double capped, like a bictory, since they are easy to make and cheap...

I think you should use an unsharpened pencil with 1 of those metal eraser things on each side. Or just use a big stick, since it's so heavy, you do tricks slower and you can learn more easily. cool.gif

When I started I made a wooden stick with grips. It was a wooden dowel, wrapped in electrical tape, and random grips on either end. It was rather long, like 25cm but it helped alot in getting used to new tricks wink.gif

i would highly recommend taking a pentel RSVP, double capping it, and stick a single ball bearing (of adequate size) inside the back cap to balance the weight. put paper in after the ball bearing if u dont want it to rattle. i think it works beautifully, perfect length and the weight for a beginner.

when you are starting, you should buy no-name pen and add two grips ;]
later when you join in penspinning a lot you should buy Metal Comssa (IMO) ;]

Regular Pentel RSVP's are good to start spinning with. Cap on the non ink side, just let the ink stick out...put some tape on it or something in order to not get all inked up. I first started spinning with a papermate cap pen, i later realized that these are horrible to spin with. RSVP's are everywhere and they are cheap and functional, perfect for the fundementals. Dont forget to cut off the clip. BiCtories are also very easy and cheap to make.

the best thing for charge would probably be a mod with alot of momentum...so...idk...comssa metallic maybe?if you can't get mods, then just get a pencil or something and start putting grips on each side, but put it so it gets the same weight on each side...good luck thumb.gif
