While some back plugs (the smaller caps or covering opposite the tip) may be unscrewed with ease, some are not meant to be removed and need some force. Below are common ways of removing the more stubborn back plugs.

Bic Round Stic

Pliers

  • Gently squeeze the barrel until you hear cracking, that's the seal being broken. Use something long to poke out the plug after squeezing all around the barrel.

Water

  • Boil some water to melt the glue.

Skewer

  1. Place the barrel over the skewer.
  2. Hold both the barrel and skewer in the air.
  3. Let go of the skewer and slam the barrel down to the ground.
  4. The skewer should force the back plug off of the barrel.

Pentel Hybrid Gel Grip

anything pointed

  • Poke the plug with something sharp (x-acto knife, kitchen knife, toothpick, etc...).
  • Twist and pull off the plug at an angle, the plug should slide out of the barrel with relative ease.
