NeoSonic is a fairly simple pen spinning trick. The name of the trick, given by Kam, comes from the early pen spinners who would inadvertently perform this trick while trying to learn the Sonic. The name is short for "Neophyte" Sonic, neophyte meaning "beginner or novice". The pen travels over a finger in a Fingeraround Reverse motion , yet is caught between the thumb and index finger or inside the thumbflap.

  • Normal: the pen rotates in a clockwise motion (right-handed performance) for 1.0 rotation throughout the entire trick, caught in the T1/TF slot.
  • Reverse: the pen rotates in a counter-clockwise motion (right-handed performance) for 1.0 rotation throughout the entire trick, starting from the T1/TF slot and traveling over a finger to be caught like a Fingeraround Normal.

Written naming convention

NeoSonic (Direction) (1.0) (starting position)-(ending position)

When writing a NeoSonic in breakdown form, the above convention will detail what happens throughout the entire trick.

  1. The name of the trick, NeoSonic.
  2. The direction can be omitted. When direction is omitted, the trick is assumed to be a NeoSonic Normal.
  3. The number of spins can be omitted. When number of spins is omitted, it is assumed to only have 1.0 rotation.
  4. The starting and ending positions can be omitted.
    • When the positions are both omitted for a NeoSonic Normal, the trick is assumed to be a Sonic Normal 23-T1.
    • When the positions are both omitted for a NeoSonic Reverse, the trick is assumed to be a NeoSonic Reverse T1-23.
    • If only the ending position is omitted for a NeoSonic Normal, the pen is assumed to end in the T1 slot.
