UPSB v1 & v2
The first version of the UPSB message board was created on 7 October 2003. The board was opened to the public as UPSBv2 in 11 January 2004.
Note: People mistakenly perceives the older Pentix forum as "UPSBv1". This is simply not true. The only reason the original UPSB is considered v2 is because its address directory is /UPSB2/ because the board was given this "hidden" address (not easily guessable), while the real board /UPSB/ simply told the viewer that the board was in construction. However, once the board was opened, kam never changed its address to /UPSB/ and kept it to /UPSB2/.
UPSB closure
The UPSB message board was closed 16 October 2005 with the following reasons given by Kam in the news announcement:
- recent UPSB login problem, which prevents users from viewing the index page. The difficulty of solving this problem has been stated before, and we feel it is not worth our time to fix it at this point.
- lack of moderating presence (with mainly only one/two active moderators).
- increased number of users spamming, flaming, and otherwise abusing the board.
- constant need to upgrade the phpbb software to protect against security vulnerabilities. This has proven to be very time consuming for our highly customized board.
- previously known flaws on the current UPSB system/software, most of which are planned to be fixed with the new UPSB.
UPSB v3
Before the closing of UPSBv2, Kam had started work on the newest version of the message board: UPSBv3. It was only open for public registration for a short amount of time by accident.
UCPSB becomes UPSB
UCPSBv3 was created 11 June 2007 to fix major problems that were holding UCPSB back from fully being the more successful message board that it looked to be becoming. After some consideration and the approval of Kam, UCPSBv3 was changed in name and structure to fit more closely to the original UPSBv3. The new board became a merger of the UPSB and UCPSB forums.
UPSB v3 becomes active
On 8 September 2007, the opening of UPSBv3 was announced during the third UCPSB podcast by Zombo.
